Il Sulcis - Antica terra del futuro

Il Sulcis - Antica terra del futuro

It is a territory of Sardinia that extends in the southwestern portion of the island, an integral part of the historical-geographical region of Sulcis-Iglesiente. Sulcis proper corresponds to the southwestern slope of the Sulcis Mountains and the plain below to the southwestern coast overlooking the Sardinia Channel, from Cape Altano, or Cape Giordano, to the Gulf of Palmas and from there continuing to Cape Teulada. Also part of the Sulcis territory is the Sulcis archipelago, with the islands of San Pietro and Sant'Antioco. Sulcis has been affected by a number of important phenomena that have interfered with the socio-economic fabric of the region, while preserving the fundamentally agropastoral vocation in part of the territory. The most important process developed in the first decades of the 20th century, with the discovery of the Sulcis coal deposits. The development of the mining industry led in the 1930s to the construction, near the pre-existing center of Serbariu, of the town of Carbonia. Directed by Gigi Oliviero
