It was towards the end of the 19th century that, in the Gulf of La Spezia, people began to undertake the farming of mussels, known in Liguria by the more picturesque name of 'muscles'.And still today, almost one hundred and thirty years later, mussel farming is a prominent activity in the Gulf, thanks in part to the particular organoleptic characteristics of these waters, which are decisive in making these farms produce some of the finest and tastiest mussels, sought after by refined gourmets. But raising them, or rather cultivating them, as insiders say because of the appearance of submerged vineyards that the nurseries have underwater, requires hard work and sacrifices, as Angelo Majoli, one of La Spezia's historic breeders, well knows, but these are mitigated by the satisfaction of a lifetime of work conducted among the extraordinary scenery of the Gulf.Text: Roberto Jannone Music: Matteo Cremolini Narration: Saverio Indrio Editing: Donatella Orlandi, Valter TorriPhotography and direction: Valter Torri
