Calenzano - Tuscany (ENG)

The municipality of Calenzano is located in the Florence-Prato-Pistoia plain. Its territory, two thirds mountainous, is included between the Calvana Mountains to the west, which reach the maximum altitude with the 916 meters of Monte Maggiore and Monte Morello to the east with the 934 meters of Poggio dell'Aia. The highest roadable part is the Passo delle Croci at 427 metres. Numerous watercourses cross it longitudinally and, descending from the surrounding hills, flow in a North-South direction. From west to east we find the Marinella di Travalle torrent, a tributary of the Bisenzio river, the Marina torrent (the main watercourse in the area and also a tributary of the Bisenzio) from which the valley of the same name takes its name, the Marinella di Legri, which it flows into the Marina and the Chiosina stream. The latter, near the town, enters the Nuovo Garille canal and flows into the aforementioned Marina. The historic center of Calenzano ("il Donnini") is about 14 km away. from Florence and 6 km from Prato. Around the densely urbanized and populated area, which arose mainly starting from the second half of the last century at the foot of the hill on which the Castle and the village of Calenzano Alto stand, the landscape changes radically, giving way to reliefs covered with typical woods and olive groves of the surroundings of Florence. The municipal territory borders clockwise with the municipalities of Barberino di Mugello, San Piero a Sieve, Vaglia, Sesto Fiorentino, Campi Bisenzio, Prato and Vaiano. Directed by Gigi Oliviero
